Day 6: A Film That You Watch Over And Over Again

Re-watch ability is crucial in a movie.  I want you to give me a reason to spend $50 on a collector’s DVD so I can watch a film a billion times over.  My extensive DVD collection spans so many genres, it’s hard to pick which film has the best re-watch value.  Horror? Comedy? Action?  But then after glancing over the whole rack, my pick became clear:

Predator

Yup, the holy mother load of testosterone infused alien action.  It was hard taking Predator out of the running for so many other categories, like “A movie you quote from all the time” (BILLY, NOOOOOOO!), but I don’t think I’ve ever once turned Predator off when it’s been on TV, and I can watch it over and over again with same pleasure.  You can have so many different reactions based on your mindset.  Go in wanting a B-Movie, and you’ll be happily content.  Go in wanting a badass action film, and there’s enough explosions to quench any desire.  Go in for Arnold, and you’ll get a ton of incoherently screamed lines.  I mean the mix of hilariously epic action one liners (“Stick Around…”), a bunch of body builders destroying an enemy encampment, and Carl Weathers makes Predator a hands down classic.  None of it gets old.  Best Arnold movie?  Debatable for some, but a no brainer for me.  No other installment can achieve the greatness of the original, and so help me god if plans to remake this film go through, I’ll protest till the end.  Nothing you can do with new technology can create a better story or cast.  The tone of Predator was perfect, as our macho task force is hunted by one superior being.  Not to mention, Predator was gifted one of the best Rifftrax, adding even MORE replay value to an already adrenaline pumping story.  If you like action and have somehow avoided seeing Predator, drop everything.  Now. Go!

What about you guys?  What DVD is almost worn down to nothing thanks to re-play value?

About Matt Donato

I love all things film. I'll watch any genre, any actor, at any time. This whole film critic thing is a passionate hobby for now which I'm balancing with working in the business world, but hey, someday, who knows?
